Neighborhood History

Responding to the needs of Sacramento’s post-WWII population, the city of Sacramento laid out suburban-style residential subdivisions in various areas that differed from the street grids of the urban center. For the Golf Course Terrace Estates neighborhood, the city built the needed infrastructure (roads, sidewalks, utilities) and invited 25 regional builders and architects to develop model homes in the area.

Between 1955 and 1970, hundreds of unique homes were built along the avenues, courts and streets.  Many streets are named after famous golfers like Hogan, Demaret and Middlecoff, all keeping with the neighborhood’s theme. The variations and counterpoints to GCTE neighborhood's original ranch architecture gives our neighborhood its character and charm.
